We have been informed by our local correspondents that an armed riot erupted in Freetown, Sierra Leone on the 26th of November, 2023, around 3 a.m. in the morning.
According to news reports, nearly two thousand detainees escaped the Pademba Road prison facility. There have been reports of loss of lives connected to the incident. In response, to contain the unrest, the president of Sierra Leone has imposed a nationwide curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Based on the information we received from our local correspondents, port operations are currently unaffected. However, members are still recommended to check in with their local agents before any port call in order to obtain real time information on the situation.
